Anne of Green Gables Introduction

Anne of Green Gables is a funny and warming play.

Brother and Sister, Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, decide to adopt a boy in order to help on their
farm (Green Gables). They send word to a Nova Scotia orphanage via Mr Spencer who is also going
to get a girl he wishes to adopt. After a misunderstanding he brings them Anne, a red haired,
imaginative girl with a rather feisty temperament.

Matthew takes a shine to Anne almost straight away and convinces Marilla to take her as an
‘experiment’.

Although there are several mishaps; such as Anne breaking a slate over Gilbert Blythe’s head
because he calls her ‘Carrots’, Anne turning her hair green and also intoxicating Diana with Currant
wine, Anne soon wins a place in both their hearts.

Come along to the introduction evenings to find out more.

Great parts for Adults and Children (age 12+)

Could you be the feisty red head herself? Or one of her school friends such as her best friend Diana
or one of the boys from her class such as the intelligent and charming Gilbert Blythe.

For the adults there are great parts such as Matthew Cuthbert who is shy and scared of women, the
stern but gentle Marilla and Rachel Lynde who is the town gossip.

There are also several smaller roles so something to suit everyone.
